| These pictures
were made under contract to the City of Providence in 1997. The purpose
of the project was to create an architectural documentation of the Gorham
Manufacturing Co. complex on Elmwood Ave. in Providence prior to its demolition
in 1998.
The project consists of 130 photographs and a written description conforming
to HABS/HAER standards of the site and its 33 buildings. I was the photographer
on the project, Erik Carlson and Joshua Safdie researched and wrote the
text.
This report was produced for the Planning dept. of
the City of Providence under the guidance of the Rhode Island Historical
Preservation and Heritage Commission.
The complete project including the report, a full set of prints and the
original negatives now resides in the special collections area of the
John Hay Library of Brown University in Providence.
The site is now partially occupied by a retail shopping center.
One building, the carriage house, was saved, and is currently under renovation
to become the Providence Fire Museum.
